Is Owning Less The New Luxury?

Is Owning Less The New Luxury?
Email :163

The world is in a rush and everyone wants to have more. As everyone beyond gender wants to be independent so that they can have anything they want. It’s not bad to have desires and dreams in this beautiful human life, but it is also true that human is the only creature on the earth who are discreet and thoughtful of any action.
Owning more is now termed as consumerism, and it’s not about having more or less or desiring anything one wants; the actions that we do in everyday life also have some impact on the environment.
Today I’m going to talk about the negative impact of consumerism on the planet.
People think the more they collect materialistic things, the more progress they will be considered. Now things have changed, I consider the less you own, the more luxurious your life will be.
Let’s talk in detail here:
Fashion and beauty world, and other manufacturing industries promote their products like a pro. Everything has marketing now and not having that product in the home makes people think why they can’t have it. In that scenario, they spend extravagantly. Because of this, more and more end up in the landfill and make a big mountain on the outskirts of the city.
Just because one has purchasing power, it doesn’t mean he has every right to use that. The things that can be made at home or are not in use much, people buy them due to the low prices.
One of the most useless products I consider is the fast fashion items. I mean, what are they, what does it mean to use them, and why should someone invest in them?
Fast fashion is basically the products that are designed to be used for only a few times, and if the trend goes down, they are not used anymore. Later, the products end up in landfills even though they can be used.
The next one is plastic products. I saw many households spending on items that they don’t even need. In the name of making people’s lives easier, companies make useless items. Now the question is why one has such a desire to spend more, or is it influenced by other factors too? Well, people indeed desire to have more, but it’s not solely due to their willingness.

Here are the following causes of consumerism:

  1. The marketing of products like a pro – as we already talked about it. Companies hire big names to inculcate trust among people for the product’s advertisement. They show them with captivating scripts and words. People tend to believe it and therefore end up purchasing products.
  2. The desire to have everything – Some people tend to believe that the more they buy, the more luxurious they’ll seem in their surroundings. The approval of others is more important for them
  3. The social status issue – Most of the people on the earth are so depressed just because of thinking ” log ya kahenge” and because of that societal pressure, they want to have everything.
  4. The access to things – Today, everything is digital, and you can get whatever you want with just one click. This is also a cause of having more.
What are the impacts of consumerism:
  5. More and more goes to landfills, causing problems for the environment.
  6. The process of making an item includes labour, capital, clean water, time and space. Using anything inappropriately and throwing it out does not seem suitable.
  7. Wastage of natural resources
  8. The attitude of using things mindlessly gives birth to polluted water, air, and soil.
    Conclusion:
Before clicking on any shopping app on your phone, consider this once. Before stepping into any fast fashion trend, consider it again. The world doesn’t need more items to survive, it just needs skills to use available items mindfully so that we together could make this planet a beautiful home to live.
